MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- The Middle Tennessee women's basketball program were ranked No. 24 in the Lindy's Sports College Basketball Preseason Top-25 poll released this week.
The national sports magazine predicted the Blue Raiders to be strong in 2012-13 after an impressive 26-7 record last season. MT compiled an unblemished regular season record in the Sun Belt (16-0) en route to their 15th NCAA Tournament appearance.
"It's always positive to get preseason recognition," said head coach Rick Insell. "Some coaches shy away from that, but I never have. I feel anytime that your basketball program is recognized as one of the top programs in the country it's a good thing. Our goal is to get this program into the Top-10."
Middle Tennessee will face two opponents ranked in the Lindy's Top-25 poll; No. 7 Kentucky (Dec. 9) and No. 23 Tennessee (Nov. 28).
The Blue Raiders return 10 letterwinners from a year ago and all five starters. Among those include Ebony Rowe, who garnered WBCA All-Region 4 Team honors after averaging 16.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game last season.
Also back in the mix for the Blue Raiders is Kortni Jones, who posted 16.8 points per contest and led the team with 115 three-pointers.
MT opens the regular season on Nov. 9 by hosting Kennesaw State in the WNIT.
