Women's golf opens play at Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational Monday
Blue Raiders among 13 teams in tournament
September 23, 2012 · @MTAthleticsMURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Blue Raider women's golf team opens action at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by the University of Kansas on Monday in Lawrence, Kan. The 54-hole tournament will take place over two days at the 6,636-yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Course.
Middle Tennessee is among 13 participating schools, including UALR, Arkansas State, Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, New Mexico State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, UMKC and Wichita State. Each team will field five golfers in team play, totaling 65 in addition to some individual competitors.
The team will have a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Monday and will play 36 holes. Tuesday's action will feature a staggered shotgun format at 8 a.m. and the final 18 holes.
Last week, MT competed at the Dale McNamara Invitational and finished 13th at the tournament. Prior to that, the Blue Raiders finished second at the Chris Banister Classic to open the fall slate. Ashley Haggard has led MT in both tournaments, posting totals of 221 and 228, respectively.
