Women's Basketball opens first practice on Monday

Blue Raiders ranked preseason No. 24 by two national publications

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball officially opens the 2012-13 season with practice on Monday, Oct. 1. The practice is slated for a 1:30pm start. 

There is a lot of excitement for the 2012-13 campaign. Head Coach Rick Insell's squad return 10 letterwinners from last season's team that posted a 26-7 overall record and an unblemished 16-0 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.

Among those returning includes Kortni Jones and Ebony Rowe. Jones led the Raiders with 16.8 points per game, while Rowe averaged a double-double with 16.3 points and 10.1 rebounds a contest.

Returning starters Icelyn Elie (13.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg), Shanice Cason (7.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg) and Laken Leonard (5.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg) are all expected to make contributions this season.

Two national pundits, Athlon Sports and Lindy's, have slotted the Blue Raiders in their respective preseason Top-25 as the 24th best team in the country.

Middle Tennessee opens the season with an exhibition game against Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 1. MT hosts the first two rounds of the WNIT as Kennesaw State and the Raiders tip-off the season on Nov. 9 at 5:15pm.
