Women's Tennis opens season at 19th Annual Hokie Fall Invite

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis program opens the 2012 fall season at the 19th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational on Friday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. The three day tournament concludes on Sunday. 

Four Blue Raiders will compete in this weekend's action as several schools from across the region are enrolled in the fight flight tournament.

Senior Yuiri Nomoto faces host Virginia Tech's Carol Kahoun in Flight A. Last season, Nomoto collected 17 victories in the top spot for the Raiders.

Flavia Nagayama, a junior from Brazil, takes on Wofford's Emily Przystawksi at 10am Friday in the B flight.

In Flight C, Nayara Moraes faces Taylor Newman from Radford, while freshman Irina Constantinide squares off against Virginia Tech's Frances Payton at 11am.

Doubles action will start the tournament at 8am tomorrow when Nomoto/Nagayama play Liberty in Flight A and Moares/Constantinide take on Wofford.

Head Coach Shelley Godwin begins her second season with the Middle Tennessee program and is looking forward to this weekend's fall opener.

"We are excited to hit the road for our first tournament of the year," said Godwin. "The girls have trained hard for the past few weeks and it's time to play against someone in a different uniform. This will be a good opportunity to see new teams and get a good indication of where we are as a team."
