Cunningham takes SBC Offensive Player of Week award
Picks up two other honors as well
October 1, 2012 · @MTAthleticsMURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee senior running back Benny Cunningham was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office. It marks the first player of the week honor for the Nashville native.
Cunningham set several career-highs in the upset win over Georgia Tech, including 217 yards rushing, scoring five touchdowns, carrying the pigskin 27 times and registering a career-long 60-yard run. The 60-yard touchdown run was the longest by the Blue Raiders since D.D. Kyles raced 74 yards against Louisiana in 2010.
Cunningham's five rushing touchdowns tied for the second most in a game at Middle Tennessee and moved him to No. 3 nationally in scoring.
Cunningham was also recognized nationally by earning College Football Performance Awards National Running Back of the Week, while taking College Sports Madness honors for SBC Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
This marks the 44th SBC Player of the Week honor under Rick Stockstill and the 10th offensive honor.
