MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee soccer senior Paige Goeglein garnered national recognition on Wednesday as a College Soccer 360 Primetime Performer for her performance last week.
Goeglein, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., provided two critical game-winning goals last weekend to continue Middle Tennessee's (9-3, 4-0 SBC) unblemished record in Sun Belt Conference action.
She scored the second goal in Middle Tennessee's 3-1 win over preseason conference favorite FIU on Friday. Last Sunday against Florida Atlantic, the Raiders prevailed from a late penalty kick to fend off the Owls, 3-2 in double overtime. Goeglein provided the golden goal with a strike from the left side of the box to give MT its ninth victory of the season.
"Paige is truly deserving of this award," said head coach Aston Rhode. "She has scored some very important goals for us all season and has a knack of showing up at the right place, at the right time. I am really proud of her accomplishment because I know how hard she works on and off the field to ensure she puts her team in a position to be successful."
CS360 selects a weekly list of NCAA Division I student-athletes that performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason achievements. Typically, honorees exhibit strong leadership and are involved in clutch performances, such as game winning goals, noteworthy comebacks or a momentum-shifting play.
Currently, Goeglein is tied for first nationally with Ohio State's Tiffany Cameron with six game-winning goals. The senior midfielder leads the Blue Raiders nine goals, three assists and 21 points in 12 matches. Middle Tennessee ranks No. 1 nationally with 3.42 goals per game.
This weekend, Middle Tennessee visits ULM and Louisiana to cap a four-match roadtrip. Kickoff with the Warhawks is slated for 3pm on Friday in Monroe, La.
