MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee improved to 3-1 in the fall after splitting a doubleheader against Volunteer State on Wednesday. MT lost Game 1 2-0 but picked up a win in Game 2, 3-0.
LaRi Mitchell continued to impress in her second doubleheader as a Blue Raider, going 2-for-5 with a run while Kayla Toney put together a 2-for-4 performance with a run and a walk, overcoming a slow start to the fall season during last week's doubleheader at Columbia State.
MT's top offensive contributer in Game 2 was Nina Dever, who shook off an 0-for-3 performance in Game 1 to go 2-for-3 from the place with an RBI and a run.
From the circle, Jordyn Fisherback struck out nine and allowed just four hits in 7.0 innings pitched, but took the loss in Game 1. Shelby Stinnett pitched 4.0 shutout innings and allowed just two hits to pick up the win in Game 2. Ashley Stassin earned the save after throwing 2.2 innings and striking out two.
The Blue Raiders continue their fall season with a doubleheader at Lipscomb on Oct. 13. They will close out the fall season on Oct. 20 at home against Trevecca.
