MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team placed a singles player and a doubles team on this years Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings for the fall.

Sophomore Manon Kruse, ranked No. 33, becomes the first Lady Raider with a fall ranking since Tina Hojnik was placed at No. 15 in the region in the fall of 1999. Kruse's ranking comes after a phenomenal fall campaign as she went 9-2 and defeated four ranked opponents and was seeded No. 14 at the ITA Regional Championships.

"I am really proud of Manon and the fall she had," Middle Tennessee Head Women's Tennis Coach Randy Holden said. "We have a really hard schedule in 2002 and if she can continue this consistency I expect her to move up in the rankings."

The doubles team of Kruse and junior Stacy Varnell came out of their fall tournament play with a No. 32 ranking in the ITA national rankings. The duo ended the year with an 11-2 record and the No. 7 seeded tandem went 2-1 at the ITA Regional Tournament. It is the first time a Middle Tennessee Lady Raider doubles team has had a fall ranking since Alex Toelle and Jennifer Bryan, who is now an assistant for the MT women's tennis program, were ranked 12th regionally in 1998.

"This is a great statement to the hard work or Stacy and Manon, Holden said. "This was Manon and Stacy's goal when the fall season started, now the second part of their goal is to make it to the NCAA tournament."
