Volleyball Sweeps Weekly Sun Belt Conference Awards

Chelsea Ross named Player of the Week, Bri McCombs named Defensive Player of the Week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee volleyball team swept the weekly Sun Belt Conference awards on Monday. Chelsea Ross was named Player of the Week for the second time this season and Bri McCombs earned her first Defensive Player of the Week award.

Ross led the Blue Raiders with 5.17 kills last week as Middle Tennessee went 2-1 against Austin Peay, Florida Atlantic and FIU. She opened the week with a career-high 29 kills on a school record 82 attacks in a five-set match at Austin Peay last Wednesday. Ross hit .280 in the match and had 10 digs. On Friday night, Ross had a match-high 17 kills as Middle Tennessee defeated Florida Atlantic 3-1. She wrapped up the weekend with 16 kills against FIU on Saturday night, hitting .400 for the match. Ross is currently second in the Sun Belt in kills per set with 4.00.

McCombs averaged 4.17 digs per set last week, starting it off with a season-high 28 digs at Austin Peay. She had 10 digs and three assists in the Blue Raiders' win over Florida Atlantic. On Saturday night, the freshman libero had 12 digs and three service aces as Middle Tennessee swept FIU. McCombs leads the Blue Raiders with 3.81 digs per set.

Middle Tennessee, now 4-4 in Sun Belt play after its weekend sweep of Florida Atlantic and FIU, are back in action Tuesday night at UAB. First serve is at 7 p.m.
