Blue Raiders open action at Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The Blue Raider women's golf team sits in 11th place after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.
In what will likely be the toughest field Middle Tennessee faces, the Blue Raiders shot a 303 on opening day, putting them 15 strokes over par and 19 behind leader No. 13 Oklahoma. The Sooners, one of eight top 50 teams in the tournament, shot a 284, while No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 31 Texas State tied for second with a 289 each at the par-72, 6,327-yard course.
Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman, Denver's Tonje Daffinrud and Notre Dame's Lindsey Weaver tied for the individual top spot after the first round. Each carded a 68 (-4), with TCU's Sanna Nuutinen a stroke behind at 69.
Ashley Haggard led MT with a 73 (+1) and sits tied for 19th through 18 holes. Stephanie Smith carded a 75 (+3) to tie for 39th after day one, while Natalie Chrisopulos finished a stroke behind Smith with a 76. Emily Miller's 79 (+7) put her in a tie for 70th and Avery George rounded out the scoring for the Blue Raiders with an 81 (+9).
Action resumes on Tuesday morning as the 18-team field will tee off for the second round. The tournament concludes on Wednesday with the final 18 holes. Live scoring is available via golfstat.com.
