Nomoto picks up victory in consolation round

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis completed action at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Purdue University on Saturday.

Senior Yuiri Nomoto picked up a victory in the first consolation round as she knocked off Ball State's Courtney Earnest in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Nomoto fell in the second round in a three set contest. She dropped a 6-7 (0-4), 6-2, 6-3 decision to Memphis' Skylar Kuykendall.

In the main draw round of 32, Alix Thurman from Miami (Ohio) defeated MT's Nayara Moraes (4-6, 6-3, 6-1). The loss snapped an eight match win streak for the sophomore.

Vanderbilt's Lauren Mira defeated freshman Irina Constantinide, 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In other consolation rounds, Butler's Carolina Hedrick won 7-6 (9-0), 6-1 over Lexi Brand. Flavia Nagayama fell 6-1, 6-0 to Liza Tymechenko from Memphis to close out the tournament.

The Blue Raiders take a two week hiatus before wrapping up the fall season at the San Diego State Fall Classic on Nov. 9-11.
