Bastien named TSWA Defensive Player of Week

MURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee defensive end Shubert Bastien was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the organization today.
Bastien turned in a career effort in the Blue Raiders' contest at 12th-ranked Mississippi State, recording two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a sack. The Riviera Beach, Fla., native sacked MSU quarterback Tyler Russell and forced a fumble in the second quarter that Kendall Dangerfield recovered for the Blue Raiders.
The sophomore leads the team with 5.0 tackles for loss and is tied for the team lead with 3.0 sacks with 19 total tackles in seven contests this season.
Middle Tennessee hosts North Texas on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for the annual Blackout game. The athletic department will also be celebrating the 31st annual Salute to Armed Services/Veterans Day.
