NEW ORLEANS, La. - A share of the Sun Belt Conference regular season title gave Middle Tennessee soccer the No. 2 seed in the SBC Tournament, which is set for Oct. 31 through Nov. 4 in Mobile, Alabama.
The Blue Raiders (13-4-1, 8-1-1 Sun Belt) collected the second regular season title in school history with a 1-1 draw against WKU Friday evening. MT is set to play No. 7 seed and host South Alabama in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
Should the Raiders advance, they would play the winner of the No. 3/6 matchup between FIU and Troy on Friday, Nov. 2., at 7 p.m. The Sun Belt Tournament Championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
Middle Tennessee notched a record-tying eight match win streak this season. Friday's draw with the Lady Toppers gave the Raiders a regular season title for the first time since sharing with North Texas in 2004. This marked the first regular season tri-champion in the Sun Belt in 12 years.
The Blue Raiders offense ranks third nationally in scoring offense, boasting 3.12 goals per game and is led by Paige Goeglein, a midfielder, who is the offensive anchor for the Raiders having scored 14 goals and notching four assists for the Blue Raiders this season. Goeglein's eight game-winning goals rank first nationally, while her 14 goals rank ninth in the NCAA and leads the SBC.
Sun Belt awards and postseason honors will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 30 with quarterfinal rounds starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.
