MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee sophomore kickoff returner Reggie Whatley was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office. It marks the first-ever player of the week honor for the Rome, GA native.
Whatley set a school record with 222 return yards on six attempts, including a 96-yard touchdown that turned out to be the game-winning score. He also recovered a fumble and had two tackles on special teams.
Whatley, ranked sixth nationally in kickoff return average, has 702 yards on the season and is chasing the school record of 910 yards set by Desmond Gee in 2009.
This marks the 47th SBC Player of the Week honor under Rick Stockstill and the 17th specials teams honor.
