Women's Tennis completes day one at SDSU Fall Classic

Constantine and Nagayama advance to semifinals

San Diego, Calif. - Middle Tennessee picked up a pair of victories in the first day of the SDSU Fall Classic on Friday.

Freshman Irina Constantinide won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 over Natasha Smith from Utah to advance to the semifinals the Gray Draw.

Flavia Nagayama won her first match in the Gold Draw by knocking off Dylan Windom from Kansas to 7-6, 6-4. Yuiri Nomoto also won in the Gold Draw against Anastasia Trubich from KU, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

Nayara Moraes fell 6-4, 6-4 to Kristin Buth from San Diego State. In doubles action, SMU's Edyta Cieplucha/Elena Fayner knocked off Nomoto/Constantinide, 9-7.

In the White Draw, Moraes and Carla Nava fell 8-6 to SDSU's Dora Somoracz and Isabelle Hoorn.

"We got off to a pretty solid start today," said second year head coach Shelley Godwin. "Being out first tournament in a few weeks, we did a good job of finding a way to win. It's important for us to continue to compete hard tomorrow and build upon today."

The semifinals will be played on Saturday as the Blue Raiders with the finals following on Sunday.

Dora Somoracz/Isabelle Hoorn (San Deigo State) def. Moraes, Nayara/Nava, Carla (Middle Tennessee) 8-6
