MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee junior forward Shawn Jones has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Jones was a beast for MT last week, posting back-to-back double-doubles to lead the Blue Raiders to a pair of victories. He averaged 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds over two games and shot 66.7 percent from the field.
Jones posted 18 points and 13 rebounds, both career-highs, in the 75-61 win over UCF Tuesday. The Hialeah, Fla., native then turned around and topped his career-high in scoring again against Texas Southern, this time with 21 points in the 79-52 victory. He scored 15 of those points in the first half and added 12 boards in the contest, including nine on the offensive glass.
The double-double marked the third of his career, and he has scored double-figures in three straight games.
Jones and the Blue Raiders open conference action this week when they travel to Louisiana. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT Thursday at the Cajundome.
