Shawn Jones rakes in TSWA weekly honor
Junior forward earns second award of the week
November 28, 2012 · @MTAthleticsNASHVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee junior forward Shawn Jones raked in another weekly honor for his outstanding performance last week, earning the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week award.
Jones was a force for the Blue Raiders in a pair of victories, posting back-to-back double-doubles. He tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds, both career-highs, in a 75-61 win over UCF on Tuesday. The Hialeah, Fla., native followed that up by setting a new career-high with 21 points and also grabbed 12 boards in a 79-52 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday. For the week, Jones averaged 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
Jones currently leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game and ranks second with 12.0 points per game. He has posted three straight double-figure scoring performances and now has three career double-doubles.
On Tuesday, Jones was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week. It marked the first weekly honor of his career and first for MT this season.
Jones and the Blue Raiders open league play on Thursday at Louisiana. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT from the Cajundome.
