Blue Raiders sweep TSWA Player of the Week awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee swept Player of the Week honors as given by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) on Thursday. Shawn Jones and Ebony Rowe were each named Player of the Week after their outstanding play during the holiday break.
Jones averaged 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in leading the Blue Raiders to a 4-0 record. He posted a pair of double-figure scoring performances, including his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against FIU. The Hialeah, Fla., native scored 13 points versus Tennessee State and registered eight points and nine boards in a victory over Vanderbilt at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
He is currently second on the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game and leads the Blue Raiders in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game. Jones earned the TSWA honor for the second time this season. The men's basketball team plays Thursday at Arkansas State before visiting South Alabama on Saturday.
Rowe earned accolades after averaging a double-double with 20.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a pair of contests for the Raiders over the holiday break.
Rowe led the club with 19 points and 12 rebounds against FIU, posting her 39th career double-double, breaking an 18-year school career record held by Priscilla Robinson. The Lexington, Ky., native then scored 21 points and grabbed 11 boards against North Texas, hitting 8-of-13 shots in a 66-64 victory. She also handed out an assist for Icelyn Elie's game-winning shot with 14 seconds remaining.
Rowe has eight double-doubles this season, tied for fifth in the NCAA. She ranked 23rd nationally in points per game (19.8) and is 20th in rebounds per contest (10.8) heading into the week. This week's honor is the third TSWA Player of the Week award for Rowe this year. MT defeated Arkansas State, 72-70, on Wednesday night and plays Saturday at South Alabama in 5:05 p.m. tip.
