Wife of MT softball coach passes after battle with cancer
Moe Breeden was a fixture in softball community
January 17, 2013 · @MTAthleticsMURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Earlier today, Middle Tennessee learned it had lost one of its own as Debbie "Moe" Breeden, the wife of head softball coach Jeff Breeden, passed away after a two-year battle with melanoma (skin cancer). She was 54.
Debbie Breeden, born Debbie Moyers, grew up in Fayetteville, Tenn., where she was raised by her grandmother.
Though she and coach Breeden had no children of their own, they parented dozens of young women who played for the Riverdale softball team and, most recently, the Middle Tennessee softball team.
As she battled cancer bravely for two years, friends and family noted that she never allowed anyone to pity her situation, and found strength in others, namely the softball community.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to the newly formed Debbie "Moe" Breeden Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded to student-athletes competing in softball at Middle Tennessee. For more information, please contact the Blue Raider Athletic Association at 615-898-2210.
"On behalf of the Blue Raider Family, our hearts and prayers go out to Jeff and his family during this terrible loss," said Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. "The entire athletic department and fans everywhere are with him during this extremely difficult time. Moe had a tremendous impact on the softball community and her memory will live forever."
