Blue Raiders sweep Lipscomb, 7-0

MT picks up first win of the season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis program collected its first win of the dual season with a 7-0 sweep over Lipscomb on Friday evening at the Whitworth Racquet Club.

The Blue Raiders (1-2) captured two out of three opportunities in doubles before winning all six singles matches over the Lady Bisons (0-2).

MT won the first doubles match as Yuiri Nomoto and Carla Nava defeated Melissa Kromer and Lorena Djukinc, 8-2. The Raiders clinched the doubles point in the three slot, as Alexandra Torres and Flavia Nagayama won 8-2 over Alyssa Bellini and Shilpa Naruka. Nayara Moraes/Irina Constantinide fell 8-3 to Lipscomb's Deahna Welcher/Jenny Borck in the No. 2 spot.

In singles action, the freshman Constantinide won in straight sets over LU's Alyssa Bellini, 6-4, 6-2. Nava, a senior, snagged a win in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-0) over Djuknic.

Middle Tennessee secured the win as Nomoto won a three-set contest over Kromer (7-5, 3-6, 6-2). Nagayama defeated Deahna (6-2, 4-6, 7-6) in a tightly contested matchup to give the Raiders their fifth point.

For the sixth point, true freshman Alexandra Torres won an abbreviated pro set, 8-2, over Lipscomb's Naruka Shilpa. Moraes won the seventh point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Borck.

The Raiders return to action next weekend on the road with a visit to Chattanooga on Feb. 1 and then open the indoor season at home against ESTU on Feb. 3.
