Raiders take on pair of in-state foes

MT hosts home opener on Sunday

Middle Tennessee women's tennis continues its road swing with a visit to Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 1 before playing their season home opener against ETSU on Sunday, Feb. 3. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. CT Thursday in Chattanooga and 11 a.m. at Nashboro Village on Sunday.

The Blue Raiders (1-2) picked up their first win of the dual match season with a 7-0 shutout of Lipscomb last Friday in Nashville. 

Nayara Moraes leads the Raiders with a perfect 3-0 mark at the No. 5 singles spot this season. Irinia Constantinide, Flavia Nagayama and Carla Nava all hold a 2-1 record in matches this season.

The doubles tandem of Nagayama and Alexandra Torres are 2-1 in the third doubles spot this season.

MT has won 13 straight in the series over UTC, including a tight 4-3 victory last season. MT last dropped an 8-1 match to the Lady Mocs in 1999. The Lady Mocs (2-0) opened the season with a 6-1 victory over Kennesaw State and a 7-0 shutout of Belmont.

The Blue Raiders and Buccaneers are meeting for the first time since 2006. Since the series began in 1976, Middle Tennessee holds a 10-2 record. ETSU knocked off MT 5-2 in Murfreesboro on Feb. 4, 2006. Sunday's match will be the season opener for the Bucs.
