MT Tennis falls to unbeaten Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's tennis held it's on early, but was shutout in a 7-0 loss to the Chattanooga Mocs on Friday evening at the Hixson Racquet Club.

The Blue Raiders (1-3) lost the doubles point with a tie breaker and then lost all five doubles points as Chattanooga (3-0) remained unbeaten.

Nayara Moraes and Irinia Constantinide picked up MT's only win of the day at No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 victory against Chadwell Kaylene and Jenna Nurik. UTC evened up the doubles contest when Kelsey Coots and Kayla Jones won 8-3 over Carla Nava and Yuiri Nomoto.

The Mocs won the doubles point as Alexa Flynn and Katie Polk defeated Flavia Nagayama and Alexandra Torres, 8-7 (7-3 tie break) in the No. 3 position.

Clair Mulyadi picked up UTC's first doubles point with a straight set sweep of Alexandra Torres (6-0, 6-0) at the six position. Moraes dropped a 6-1, 6-3 contest to the Mocs' Coots at No. 5, while Nomoto fell to Nurik, 6-2, 6-4 in the one spot.

In No. 2 singles, Chadwell defeated freshman Irina Constantinide, 6-3, 6-3. Nagayama won her first set 7-6 (4-7), but lost the remaining match 6-3 and 1-0 (10-5) in a tiebreaker. Flynn completed a shutout for UTC with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over Nava.

Middle Tennessee opens its dual match season at home against ETSU this Sunday, Feb. 3 with an 11 a.m. contest against ETSU inside Nashboro Village.
