Blue Raiders bounce back with victory over Tulane

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Coming off a tough loss at No. 44 Vanderbilt yesterday, Middle Tennessee's men's tennis squad bounced back with a 5-2 team victory over Tulane on Saturday at Nashboro Village.

Middle Tennessee (4-2) lost the doubles point after dropping two of three to Tulane (2-1), but bounced back with strong singles play to grab the victory.

MT's lone doubles victory came from Yannick Born and Marlon Brand, who defeated Rodrigo Rappaccioli and Alex Van Cott, 8-5.

Flight 1 singles pitted No. 101 Ben Davis against Tulane's Idan Mark (ranked 16th regionally). Davis set the tone for the singles portion of the dual with 6-2, 6-4 victories over Mark.

Victor Cornea lost his Flight 2 singles debut on Friday, but performed well in Saturday's match against TU's Joe Young, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-2 tie-breaker).

Christoph Lang and Born each went into three sets in their respective matches, as Lang defeated Rappaccioli 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, and Born topped Alex Van Cott, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-3.

Ettore Zito lost his Flight 5 match against Dominik Koefer 6-4, 7-6 (10-6), while David Fox won his battle with Ian Van Cott, 6-1, 6-2.

The Blue Raiders are back in action Feb. 8 at 4 p.m., with a matchup against future Conference USA foe, UAB.
