MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Kayla Toney and Chelsea Good earned recognition on preseason All-Conference teams this week. Toney was voted Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, as announced by the conference office Monday. Toney and Good were both nominated on College Sports Madness' Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference teams. Toney earned first-team honors while Good was voted second team.

Kayla Toney returns to anchor a young Middle Tennessee lineup after earning All-Sun Belt honors last season. Toney led the team with .410 batting average and 12 doubles. In addition, Toney had a .657 slugging percentage and a .941 fielding percentage. On the basepaths, Toney was 9-11 on stolen bases, and scored 26 times. She will likely split time between first, second and third base.

"Toney really paced the offense last season," head coach Jeff Breeden said. "She's coming back strong this season, so we hope she will have another banner year for us."

Good, a senior from Lake Mary, Fla., started 26 games last season. Good logged four multi-hit games and finished the season as one of three Blue Raiders to notch a triple. She hit .211 at the plate and had 21 putouts in the field.

"Chelsea worked extremely hard in the offseason and she definitely deserves the nod for second team," Breeden said. "We'll look for her to be a valuable contributor at the plate and in the field this season.

In the coaches' preseason poll, Middle Tennessee was picked to finish last in the conference, though Breeden expects big things from this year's squad.

"With us only receiving 12 votes, it definitely shows we haven't garnered a lot of respect from the league's coaches," Breeden said. "That's okay though; we will work harder and earn it in 2013."

MT opens its season Feb. 15 in Athens, Ga., at the Georgia Softball Classic.
