MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - After an 11th-place finish for the Middle Tennessee women's golf team in the spring's first tournament, head coach Chris Adams is looking for improvement as the Blue Raiders tee it up for their second event of the spring in the Jim West Challenge in Blanco, Texas, on Sunday and Monday.

Adams was quick to point out that it won't be easy, as the field of 12 teams contains four ranked in the top 100, headed by host and 39th-ranked Texas State.

"This will be a stronger field than the one in Miami. There will be four other Sun Belt teams there, and that doesn't include the host school Texas State, who will become a SBC member next year. Also there will be North Texas, who had a great year last year, FIU, who won three times this past fall, Arkansas State, who is ranked in the Top 100, and ULM," Adams said.

Adams' team will face this strong field without the services of junior Natalie Chrisopolus, the lone Texan on the team, who did not make the trip because of an injury.

"Actually, two of my best players so far this year have been freshmen," noted Adams. "Emily Miller, who is a redshirt freshman, and Avery George, a true freshman.

"Miller has had some good rounds, and we just need for her to get more consistent. She'll give you a 70, but then she'll give you an 85, but that will improve as she gets more playing time."

Adams pointed out that the whole team just needed more playing time, as do most teams this time of the year.

"We have been working on course management and some other things that, hopefully, will make us better in the long run," Adams said. "Everybody can hit it at this level. It comes down to who can think their way around the course."

The Jim West Challenge will be held at the Vaaler Golf Course in Blanco. The format will be a practice round on Saturday, 36 holes on Sunday and the final 18 holes on Monday. Blue Raider fans can follow the team on Golfstat.com on Sunday and Monday.
