Payne Denman leads way at Mobile Bay

MOBILE, Ala. - Middle Tennessee wrapped up its first spring golf tournament on Tuesday with a 12th place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Blue Raiders, who showed improvement each round, shot a 907 total on the par-72 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
The Blue Raiders won the event in 2011 and 2012.
Auburn won the tournament with an 861 total while LSU came in third at 865. Illinois had an 870 for fourth and Mississippi State and Wake Forest tied for fifth.
Payne Denman was the top overall finisher for the Blue Raiders with a 223 total to tie for 35th. Denman's 39 pars for the tournament tied for the fourth most as he finished with a final round 72.
Lucas Armstrong had a 228 total to tie for 50th, while Andrew Cho tied for 59th with 232.
Jordan Jennings bounced back after a tough opening round to place 63rd with a 233. Jennings had a 74 in the final round. Sam Thompson rounded out the scoring with a 236 to tie for 68th. Thompson carded a 73 in the third round.
The USA Individual Tournament was held on the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course (par 71, 7,158 yards) and Blue Raiders Paul Sansom, Drake Duncan, and Dane Voss competed. The tournament was 36 holes.
Sansom had rounds of 79-73 to tie for 14th, while Duncan recorded a 76 and 77 to tie for 16th. Voss tied for 30th after posting an 82 and 77.
The Blue Raiders will travel to Tampa, Fla., on March 3-5 for the USF Intercollegiate.
