Blue Raiders shut out by Ole Miss
Offense manages just two hits in 11-0 loss
February 24, 2013 · @MTAthleticsOXFORD, Miss. - Middle Tennessee's early season woes continued as it fell, 11-0, to Ole Miss on the final day of the Red and Blue Classic.
MT (0-10) tallied just two hits in the loss, while Ole Miss (9-8) picked up nine.
Jordyn Fisherback dropped her fifth game of the year after starting in the circle and allowing five runs on six hits and walking two.
Ole Miss jumped on the Blue Raiders early, scoring all 11 runs in the first. With MT down 3-0 and no outs in the first, Shelby Stinnett replaced Fisherback on the rubber, but gave up four runs before she could get an out, and Caitlin McClure came in.
After McClure allowed two more runs (but got two outs), Fisherback returned to the game and got the final out of the inning.
MT was held hitless until the top of the fourth, when Samantha Nieves drew a one-out walk, and Nina Dever doubled to center field. From there, however, the Blue Raiders failed to execute, and left both runners in scoring position.
Kristi Marquez stroked a doubled to center field in the fifth for MT's only other hit in the game.
Middle Tennessee left five runners on base in the contest.
Tournament play continues for MT next weekend as it travels to Auburn, Ala., for the War Eagle Classic on March 1-3.
