Women's Tennis hosts UT Martin Saturday
Raiders have won three out of last four matches
March 1, 2013 · @MTAthleticsAfter a nine day break, Middle Tennessee women's tennis returns to the court with a contest against in-state foe UT Martin on Saturday, March 1 at Nashboro Village. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
The Blue Raiders (4-5) have won three out of the last four, including a 6-1 decision over Austin Peay on Feb. 20.
Senior Flavia Nagayama has won five straight matches and leads the Raiders with a 7-2 record at the No. 3 singles spot. Also on a strong win streak is Carla Nava, who has posted four consecutive victories and holds a 6-3 overall mark.
MT has won 10 doubles contests this year and the tandem of Nagayama and Alexandra Torres leads the Raiders with a 4-5 mark.
UT Martin (0-4) has opened the season with four straight losses. Most recently, the Skyhawks narrowly dropped a 4-3 contest to Lipscomb. UTM and the Blue Raiders meet for the 26th time on Saturday with the Raiders holding a 24-1 edge in the series. MT has won 15 straight matches since 1996.
"We are looking forward to being back at home on Saturday against UT Martin," said head coach Shelley Godwin. "It is imperative that as a team we come ready to play from the first point in order to put ourselves in a position to be successful. This is something we have been focusing on and it will be important Saturday."
