MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Baseball team hosts Xavier this weekend at Reese Smith Jr. Field for a three-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
The Blue Raiders (9-3) look to get back on track after a 3-2 home defeat Wednesday afternoon to visiting Lipscomb.
For the second weekend in a row the Blue Raiders will take on an opponent for the first time in program history. Friday's matchup will mark the first meeting between MT and Xavier after last weekend's inaugural series versus Kennesaw State.
Senior Hunter Adkins (3-0) is pitching lights out and will make the trip to the mound for the series opener with his perfect record on the line. He leads the Sun Belt with a 0.39 ERA and has recorded a team-high 18 strikeouts.
Johnathan Frebis (2-0) gets the start for game two and brings in a .138 opponent batting average, best in the conference. Zac Curtis (2-1) has settled into his role as the Sunday starter and picked up his second win in a row against Kennesaw State.
Catcher Michael Adkins, who continues to provide power in the lineup, has started seven games this year and is batting a team high .393 with a .571 slugging percentage.
Xavier University (3-7) is coming off a 6-3 loss at No. 6 Kentucky in their mid-week matchup and will be looking for their first series victory of the season.
The Musketeers have leaned heavily on outfielder Mark Elwell, who is batting .427 this year with 16 hits, nine runs scored, and seven RBI. His .527 slugging percentage is also good for first on the team.
The lefty Jon Richard (1-1) gets the nod for game one on Friday. Richard has a 3.50 ERA and has given up 18 hits and seven earned runs this year.
Alex Westrick (0-2) and Tyler Koors (1-1) round out the starting rotation for Xavier. Koors is second on the team with a 2.50 ERA and is allowing opposing batters to hit just .206 against him.
First pitch for Friday's opener is 3 p.m. and can be heard live on 88.3 WMTS.
