Blue Raiders drop two at Chanticleer Challenge
Stassin blasts solo home run in Game 2 loss
March 8, 2013 · @MTAthleticsMYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Middle Tennessee dropped two games on Day 1 of the Chanticleer Challenge, falling 13-0, to James Madison and 4-2 to Georgetown on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders (1-16) managed just two hits in the first contest, while JMU (10-6) blasted three home run as part of a 13-hit barrage. Georgetown (4-14) struck out 12 MT batters in Game 2.
Caitlin McClure (0-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in just 1.1 innings pitched. Shelby Stinnett (four runs on three hits) and Ashley Stassin (five runs on seven hits) combined to throw the remainder of the game.
Kristi Marquez and Samantha Nieves had MT's lone hits, as Marquez cracked a single in the third and Nieves doubled in the fourth.
Jordyn Fisherback took the loss in Game 2, falling to 1-7 on the year while giving up four runs on seven his. She struck out six in the complete game performance.
Kayla Toney and Laura Dukes each were 2-for-3 in the contest, while Stassin was 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first, MT answered back by manufacturing a run in the bottom half. Marquez was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, and after moving to second on Toney's sacrifice bunt, reached third on a passed ball. With one out, Dukes singled to center field and pushed Marquez home.
Down 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Stassin homered to left center for the final run of the afternoon.
MT is in action again tomorrow against James Madison at 11 a.m. and Coastal Carolina at 1:30 p.m. All times are Central. Live stats can be found here.
