MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's men's tennis squad embarks on its spring break trip this week, March 11-16, with matches scheduled against Cal Poly, San Diego and UC Irvine.

MT will face Cal Poly on March 11 at 1 p.m., San Diego on March 15 at 11 a.m., and UCI on March 16 at 11 a.m.

"These matches in California are all great opportunities," Head Coach Jimmy Borendame said. "The guys have been looking forward to this trip west all year long."

The Blue Raiders (10-5) are ranked 35th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and last played at the HEB Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, where they took second among eight teams.

MT is led by Ben Davis (No. 92), Victor Cornea and Christoph Lang in singles, and features the 35th ranked pair of Davis and Cornea in men's doubles.

"Cal Poly and San Diego have great teams that are both top-30 level despite their rankings at the moment," Borendame said. "UCI was also highly ranked last season and have a lot of talent as well as strong doubles."

No. 55 Cal Poly (6-3) is led by Andre Dome, ranked 32nd, and last played on Feb. 23 against DePaul, who they beat 7-0. Dome pairs with Flight 3 singles player, Jordan Bridge, in doubles, and they are undefeated at 6-0 this season.

San Diego (6-3) is ranked 47th, and last played March 9 in a loss to then-No. 39 BYU. San Diego features two ranked singles players, No. 82 Clarke Spinosa and No. 112 Uros Petronijevic.

UCI is just 2-11 on the year, and last competed on March 9 against then-No. 68 UNLV. The Anteaters fell, 5-2, but picked up singles victories by Shuhei Shibahara and Jonathan Hammel. Caryl Hernandez and Tyler Pham won their doubles match in the dual, 8-4.

"We are looking forward to the warm weather but will be making this an all-business trip," Borendame said.

The Blue Raiders return home March 30 for the two-day MT Shootout. Seven other squads will compete in the event, including Sun Belt Conference foes Troy, South Alabama, Georgia State and Florida Atlantic.
