Cornea named SBC Tennis Athlete of the Week
Picks up key singles, doubles victories in Cal Poly victory
March 13, 2013 · @MTAthleticsNEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee's Victor Cornea was named the Sun Belt Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Cornea, a freshman from Sibiu, Romania, Cornea, a native of Sibiu, Romania, defeated Cal Poly's Derek Klein, 6-4, 6-3 on Monday in helping the No. 42 Blue Raiders to a 5-2 victory over the No. 55 Mustangs.
The freshman also teamed with junior Ben Davis to pick up the doubles point-clinching match win over Matt Homson and Marco Comuzzo, 8-5. The Blue Raider duo is ranked 36th in the nation.
It is the first Athlete of the Week award for Cornea, and second for MT this season as teammate Ben Davis won previously.
Cornea and the Blue Raiders (11-5) will be back on the court on Saturday as they travel for a match against the University of San Diego.
