ATLANTA - Middle Tennessee's Ebony Rowe (RaidersRowe.com) was named to the All-Region 4 team as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday. Rowe is now one of 52 finalists for a spot on the 10 member WBCA All-America team.
Rowe leads the Blue Raiders with 19.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. She has recorded 172 offensive rebounds with 184 on the defensive glass for 356 this season - all three marks are second all-time by an MT player in a single season.
Statistically, Rowe ranks in four NCAA top 20 categories: 10th with 20 double-doubles, 15th with a 53.4 field goal percentage, 17th with 11. 1 rebounds per game and 20th with 19.9 points per game.
This season, the Lexington, Ky., product has reached three school records. She holds the record for offensive rebounds (501), double-doubles (52) and total rebounds (1,002). In 38 seasons of MT women's basketball, Rowe is the first Blue Raider to ever score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career.
The junior has racked up several honors this season, including first team All-Sun Belt and a spot on the Sun Belt All-Tournament team. Rowe collected three Sun Belt Player of the Week honors this season, along with a state-best six Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Player of the Week accolades. Last week, Rowe was named the Ed Temple Amateur Athlete of the Year for her outstanding performance in 2011-12. She was also named WBCA All-Region 4 last season. Rowe is a Top 30 finalist for the Naismith Award, which is given to the nation's best women's basketball player.
The WBCA All-America selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to determine a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region.
The 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 6, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in New Orleans Arena.
