NEW ORLEANS - Sophomore Michael Adkins has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week after leading Middle Tennessee to a win over No. 2 Vanderbilt and the program's first sweep of Louisiana last week.
Adkins hit .381 and slugged .762 to lead the Blue Raiders to four straight wins, racking up nine RBI, including two home runs. He had at least one RBI in four of the five contests last week. The Powder Springs, Ga., native drove in the game-winning run in the final two games of the series against Louisiana, homering on both occasions. His four RBI in game two against the Ragin' Cajuns were a career-high.
During MT's four-game winning streak, Adkins has hit a team-best .471. He is hitting .338 for the season and is tied for the team lead with three home runs this year.
The weekly accolade is the first of Adkins' career and second for a Blue Raider this season. Hunter Adkins earned Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 18.
Adkins and the Blue Raiders look to extend their winning streak with a pair of midweek contests at Memphis Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Wednesday.
