MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The men's and women's track and field squads head for Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech on March 29-30.
MT is coming off a successful performance at the Black and Gold meet, hosted by Vanderbilt last weekend, and will look to build on past performances.
The squad, which is in its third week of competition, will look at this weekend as the first official meet of the season, as most athletes need two or three weeks to transition from indoor to outdoor track.
Last week, Ann Dudley continued her string of impressive high jump performances, as she hit a mark of 1.80 meters (5-10.75 feet) to claim the title. Pershawna Williams (5-7.00 feet) took third in the event.
India Hammond was second in the women's long jump, leaping 5.81 meters, while Kameron Rory (7.34 meters) tied for second on the men's side.
France Makabu won MT's lone event at the Black and Gold meet, as she hit a mark of 12.21 meters (40-0.75 feet) in her first outdoor track meet of the season, besting Southern Illinois' Kenya Culmer by .13 meters to win the event.
The Blue Raiders continue competition next week at the Tiger Invitational in Auburn, Ala.
