MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's basketball head coach Kermit Davis has been named the 2013 District 24 Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), as announced on Friday. It marks the second year in a row Davis has earned the honor.
In his 11th season at the helm of the Blue Raiders, Davis' squad carried its success of last season into the 2012-13 campaign. MT set a new school mark of 28 wins, surpassing last year's record of 27, and the 19 conference victories were not only a school record, but also a Sun Belt record.
The 2013 Sun Belt Coach of the Year became the league's all-time winningest coach on Feb. 16 with his 113th league win and is MT's all-time winningest coach as well. He currently has 117 Sun Belt wins and 208 wins at the helm of the Blue Raiders. Since Davis took the reins for the 2002-03 campaign, he has also led MT to more conference road victories than any other Sun Belt program and the second-most road wins in college basketball over the past two seasons.
In addition to raking in the school's third Sun Belt regular-season title in the past four years, the Blue Raiders also set a new school mark in home wins (16) and matched the record for road wins (11), set last year. Davis coached three Blue Raiders to all-conference honors this season, including the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in Bruce Massey.
