Kapkiai wins 5000 meter race on Day 1 of Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA - Middle Tennessee's Lucy Kapkiai won the women's 5000 meters on Day 1 of the Yellow Jacket Invitational, and three other Blue Raiders had top 10 finishes.
MT had just six competitors in two meets on the first day, but were successful in each race.
Kapkiai ran away with the women's 5000 meter title, cruising through the line in 17:35.42, nearly 25 full seconds ahead of second place finisher Kaylee Isaacs of Georgia Tech. Jackline Kiprono was the other female athlete competitor, and she finished eighth with a time of 18:33.30.
In the men's 5000 meters, Silas Taiget and Shadrack Matelong each finished in the top 10. Taiget (14:58.53) placed fifth and Matelong (15:09.94) was seventh. Other Blue Raider finishers were Alden Dixon in 13th and Keith Davis in 17th. Dixon finished in 15:20.75 and Davis had a time of 15:25.53.
MT is back in action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The first Blue Raider competitors will start at 11:30 a.m. CT in the long jump. Live results and a schedule can be found here.
