NASHVILLE - Middle Tennessee's men's tennis squad pulled out a 4-2 comeback victory over Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia State in the finals of the MT Shootout on Sunday.
MT (15-6) lost the first two points, but came back with four straight singles victories to defeat GSU (11-9).
Originally scheduled to be played at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the teams moved indoors at Nashboro Village to finish the tournament due to rainy conditions.
Victor Valente picked up the first victory of the match, giving GSU a lead with a 6-2, 6-2 topping of MT's Ben Davis. From there, GSU would further its lead, as Robert Schulze knocked off Yannick Born, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Blue Raiders, however, would not go down easy, as Ettore Zito picked up a Flight 4 singles victory over Lucas Santa Ana, 6-4, 6-2, to start the comeback.
MT's Christoph Lang tied the match soon after by defeating GSU's Thomas Cook, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in Flight 2 singles.
David Fox and Victor Cornea would close out the match for MT, winning the next to matches to send the Panthers home.
Fox gave the Blue Raiders the lead, winning his battle with Sofianne Chevallier, 6-1, 6-1, and Cornea was victorious over Paul Schuette, 6-1, 6-4, to clinch the title.
MT is home next weekend for two matches, both on April 6. The Blue Raiders will take on Southern Miss at 11 a.m., and Morehead State at 3 p.m.
