April 10 doubleheader scheduled with EvansvilleApril 9, 2013 · @MTAthletics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Looking to rebound from an unsuccessful past week, the Blue Raider softball team will head north to Evansville, Ind., this Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader with the Evansville Purple Aces.
Game 1 between the two schools will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the finale approximately 30 minutes after the first.
MT (4-33) will likely use a combination of Jordyn Fisherback, Caitlin McClure and Shelby Stinnett in the circle, hoping to combat Evansville's (12-22) Sarah Patterson, who leads the Purple Aces with a 2.52 ERA.
At the plate, Evansville's Tamara Robey leads the team, hitting .364 with three triples and two doubles in 110 plate appearances. On the power end of things, Kayla Fortner (.293) leads the team with six home runs and a .554 slugging percentage.
Sophomore Samantha Nieves now leads the team with a .288 batting average and 30 hits. In addition, she has a team-best seven doubles, and is second with four home runs. Her 14 RBI are tied for the team lead as well.
Though the team struggled as a whole, one of the few Blue Raiders to find her bat in the South Alabama series, Nina Dever tore the cover off the ball, hitting .500 (4-for-8) with three RBI and an .875 slugging percentage. She is currently in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak as well.
The Blue Raiders continue their road trip this weekend with a three-game conference series against Louisiana, in Lafayette, La., April 13-14.
