Women's Tennis closes out regular season in Texas

Middle Tennessee women's tennis wraps up the 2013 regular season with matches versus Troy and North Texas this weekend in Denton, Texas.
On Saturday, April 13, MT takes on Troy in a neutral site matchup set for 10 a.m. The 74th ranked Mean Green will be the third ranked team MT has faced this season with a scheduled 11 a.m. first serve on Sunday, April 14.
The Blue Raiders (10-9) are coming off a gritty 4-3 victory against Samford on Wednesday and are looking to continue its momentum into the Sun Belt Championships next weekend. MT has won three of four contests with two of those victories coming against SBC foes ULM and Arkansas State.
A trifecta of Raiders are in the midst of winning streaks. Senior Carla Nava has won four consecutive contests and is 8-1 in her last nine matches. The Mexico City product is an unblemished 11-0 at the No. 5 position.
Flavia Nagayama leads Middle Tennessee with a team-best 14 victories. The sophomore has won two consecutive contests, including a straight set victory against Samford's Jessica Northcutt on Saturday. Senior Yuiri Nomoto has also won two consecutive matches.
Nomoto and Nagayama have been strong since pairing up in doubles, boasting a 3-1 mark at the second position. The Raiders have won 25 doubles contests this season.
Troy (16-4) enters this weekend with a 12-match win streak intact. Troy has not lost since mid-February in a 4-3 decision at UAB. During its current streak, Troy is 28-2 in doubles matches. Also, the Trojans feature an ITA nationally-ranked doubles team in No.90 Anja Cosovic and Candela Munoz Giron.
In singles play, senior Karoline Grymel has led the way, posting a 12-8 mark at first singles. Grymel has won her last 10 matches. Munoz Giron is also on a streak, having won her last nine matches.
Saturday's meeting marks the 11th for the two programs with the series even at five. Most recently, the Raiders secured a 4-3 road win at Troy on April 13, 2012.
North Texas (12-5) climbed back into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings that were released Tuesday, April 9, at No. 74. The Mean Green have won five out of the last six and are led by senior Valentia Starkova with an 11-4 record.
NT leads the all-time series against the Raiders with a 7-4 advantage, as MT has lost the last seven meetings.
"Our matches this weekend with Troy and North Texas are both going to be hard fought battles," noted head coach Shelley Godwin. "Both of these teams have had great seasons and will give us a good idea where we stand going into the Sun Belt Tournament."
