ORLANDO, Fla. - Down 2-0, No. 45 Middle Tennessee fought back to defeat UCF, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.
"I'm really proud of how our guys played today," head coach Jimmy Borendame said. "For us to beat this team, especially without Christoph Lang, who had the day off, is really exciting."
Cornea defeated his Flight 2 opponent Jose Sangroniz, 6-1, 6-2, followed by Ben Davis' 6-3, 6-2 topping of Blasco at the No. 1 spot.
Tied at two, David Fox broke the stalemate temporarily, as he was victories over Matthew Gladstone, 6-4, 7-5. That lead, however, was short-lived as UCF's Juan Bolona defeated Yannick Born, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, in Flight 5 singles to set up a winner-take-all situation.
Ettore Zito won the first set against Hromic, 6-2, but fell in the second set, 2-6. Zito, however, would clinch the match for MT with a dominating 6-0 third set.
"A lot of our guys stepped up big and fought hard today," Borendame said. "I'm really proud of them."
MT continues its road trip tomorrow with a match at the UCF Tennis Complex against USF, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
