Blue Raiders in second after day one at Sun Belt Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The Blue Raider women's golf team sits in second after day one at the Sun Belt Championship at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals.

Middle Tennessee recorded a 300 (+12) in the opening round of conference play, just two strokes behind tournament-leading FIU with a 298 (+10). Troy rounded out the top three with a 301 (+13) in the field of 11.

MT was led by a pair of players who shot even-par 72 as Allie Knight and Olivia Love posted the day's second-lowest total along with Troy's Sara Fennvik. FIU's Meghan MacLaren and UALR's Sofia Berglund lead the field with a 71.

Ashley Haggard registered a 77 to finish the day tied for 21st, while Avery George with a 79 (T-32nd) and Natalie Chrisopulos with an 81 (T-42nd) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Raiders.

Knight started the round with a pair of birdies and went on to record 14 even pars. Love carded three birdies on holes four, nine and 12, in addition to hitting 12 even pars. Overall, MT had seven birdies.

Action resumes on Tuesday, with the first Blue Raider, Natalie Chrisopulos, teeing off at 8:45 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available here.
