Day two results

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The Blue Raider women's golf team dropped nine strokes from its team score and remained in second after day two at the Sun Belt Championship at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Fighting Joe Course.

It was Avery George's round-two score of 69 that led Middle Tennessee to a 291 on the second day of action. The Blue Raiders head into Wednesday's final round six strokes back of first-place FIU's 585 (298-287, +9). MT (300-291-591, +15) stretched its lead over third-place Troy, who now sits seven strokes behind the Blue Raiders with a 598 (301-297, +22).

"We had a great round, maybe our best of the spring, but FIU just played great all day," head coach Chris Adams said. "Their No. 5 player was 5-under through six holes, and that is hard to beat. As well as they played, however, I don't think they thought we would still be in the hunt when the day was over, but we are."

George adapted well in the second round, knocking 10 strokes off her score from the previous day to match the second-best round in the tournament and jump from 32nd to eighth place in individual action with a 36-hole total of 148 (79-69, +4). George and Olivia Love each recorded five MT's 13 birdies on the day.

Love also improved her score on the second day, taking sole control of second place after shooting a 70 to post a two-day total of 142 (72-70, -2). Love is just three strokes off the leader, FIU's Meghan MacLaren. MacLaren carded the lowest round of the tournament with a 68 on day two and has a 139 (71-68, -5) through the first two rounds. Love has a two-stroke lead over third-place Sofia Berglund from UALR (71-73-144, E).

Allie Knight made three Blue Raiders among the top 10, finishing the day tied for 10th after carding a 78 in the second round. Knight currently has a 150 (72-78, +6).

Ashley Haggard and Natalie Chrisopulos rounded out the scoring for MT. Haggard sits tied for 18th with a 152 (77-75, +8), while Chrisopulos is 39th with a 158 (81-77, +14).

"We are fired up for tomorrow. Our two seniors (Love and Haggard) really want it.

The tournament concludes on Wednesday with the final 18 holes. The first trio of competitors that includes players from MT will tee off at 8:15 a.m. Live scoring is available here.
