MT opens SBC Championships with Arkansas State

First serve with the Red Wolves set for 11:30 a.m.

Middle Tennessee women's tennis opens the SBC Championships in the first round on Thursday, April 18 in Lafayette, La. The Blue Raiders (10-11) are the No. 6 seed for the tournament and take on No. 11 seed Arkansas State in an 11:30 a.m. first serve at the Red Lerille's Health & Racquet Club.

The Raiders completed a 10-11 overall record this spring and were 3-4 against Sun Belt competition. MT and Arkansas State meet for the second time this season. Middle Tennessee has won six out of the last seven in the series including a 6-1 victory on April 7 at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Complex.

ASU (5-10) has lost five out of the last six matches and are 0-7 against SBC opponents this season.

Red Wolves junior Biljana Miloshevska finished the regular season with an 8-7 record in singles play, while sophomore Jess Heeps-Eriksen posted a 7-7 record. ASU's top doubles pair is senior Ioana Teu and Janie Nowland with a record of 6-7.
Junior Flavia Nagayama leads the Blue Raiders with a 15-6 record singles record, with 14 of those wins coming at the four spot.

Senior Carla Nava has been strong for MT at the five spot, boasting a perfect 11-0 mark. Nayara Moraes has boasted a 12-6 overall record this spring, while true freshman Irina Constantinide has notched 10 wins. In doubles action, Irina Constantine and Moraes have combined for a team-best seven victories.

"As a team, we have experienced a lot of ups and downs this season, but with each experience we have really grown and developed through the process," said head coach Shelley Godwin. "Heading into this week, we have talked a lot about using everything we have learned this year to help us finish strong this week. The girls are focused and excited for the opportunities this week presents."

The winner of the first round match will take on No. 3 seed Troy on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Live stats and results of Thursday's match will be online at GoBlueRaiders.com.
