MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball added another piece to its 2013-14 roster, announcing that Aubrey Crowell of Oakland High School in Murfreesboro signed her letter of intent to join the Blue Raiders.

Crowell, a senior for the Patriots, is hitting .316 this season with five doubles, a home run and 14 RBI. In the field, she has a .929 fielding percentage.

"She's a catcher/shortstop combo with size, a strong arm and she can hit it," head coach Jeff Breeden said. "We're looking for her to come in and battle for a starting position from Day 1."

Crowell is the sixth member of the newest Blue Raiders class, joining fall signees Marinna Shadley, McKena Miller, Beth Breeden, Austyn Whaley and Lauren Riddell, but she is the first true local to sign under Breeden.

"We're glad to get a player from Oakland High School," Breeden said. "She's been coached by Janice Morey, so she's been coached well. They have a great program at Oakland."

Along with her talent on the field, Breeden hopes Crowell will be an asset in the classroom.

"She's a high academic kid, so we're looking forward to her being part of the university," Breeden said.
