IRONDALE, Ala. - The Middle Tennessee softball team fell, 8-1, to Mississippi State in a neutral site game at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex on Monday evening.

MT (5-43) had six hits in the game, but couldn't overcome a potent MSU (30-16) offense that had 11 hits, including three home runs.

Kayla Toney, Nina Dever and LaRi Mitchell were 1-for-3 in the game, while Katie Brown went 1-for-2 with an RBI.  Niki Campbell was 1-for-2 as well from the No. 7 spot in the lineup.

After allowing three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the third, MT answered back in the fourth.

Toney broke up the no-hitter with a single to lead off the inning, moving to second when Laura Dukes was hit by a pitch.  Toney reached third as Dever reached on a fielder's choice, and Brown's 2-out single provided MT's lone run for the game.

MSU would break the game open in the fifth, scoring four unanswered to put the game out of reach.
