Raiders finish 4th at SBC Golf Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - Middle Tennessee had to battle wet conditions and a slow start on Wednesday to finish fourth at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. The Raiders shot a 301 to finish with a 54-hole total of 886 on the Fighting Joe course at the Shoals complex (par 72, 7,395 yards).

"We did not have the day we hoped for but every player battled all day long," said Head Coach Whit Turnbow. "I am proud of this team for the way they closed the year. Now we have to have a great summer and carry this momentum into the fall."

No. 38 North Texas won the team title with an 871 just ahead of Georgia State (876). N0. 49 South Alabama was third (880) followed by the Blue Raiders.

Lucas Armstrong was the Blue Raiders' top finisher with a three-day score of 216 to place third overall. Armstrong shot a 3-over 75 in the final round.

After a 5-over start through his first two holes, Payne Denman went 3-under par the last 16 holes to card a 74 and finish tied for 9th. Denman, who had birdies on 16 and 17 Wednesday, finished the final three holes at 5-under par for the week.

Jordan Jennings finished with a 222 total after registering a 75 in the final round. Jennings, who enjoyed a solid tournament, tied for 13th.

Andrew Cho tied for 28th and Sam Thompson was 50th. Cho had a 77 on Wednesday while Thompson turned in a 79.
