A pair of Middle Tennessee track & field athletes will partake in the 27th Annual World University Summer Games next week in Kazan, Russia. Senior Emmanuel Tugumisirize and freshman Geoffrey Akena are representing their home country in the biennial games.
The pair will join the 12 other members of the Uganda men's team next week as the event officially kicks off on July 6 and ends on July 17.
Akena finished his freshman outdoor campaign with a personal-best 48.07 in the 400-meter dash, while also clocking 22.43 in the 200-meters.
Tugumisirize set a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 45.82 at the NCAA East Regional. That time gave Tugumisirize a berth to the NCAA Championships. Additionally, the senior helped anchor a 4x400-meter team that recorded the seventh-best time in program history and earn second team All-America accolades.
