MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball head coach Matt Peck announced the addition of Ailime de Freitas and Kristina Headrick to the incoming 2013 class on Monday.

The pair each signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) in the NCAA's late signing period and bring the 2013 class total to five with just over a month remaining before the season-opening Blue Raider Bash set to begin on Friday, Aug. 30.

de Freitas arrives in Murfreesboro from Indian Hills Community College where she placed third in assists per set in the NJCAA and was named Academic first team All-Region in Region XI. de Freitas, a 5-foot-8 native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, played setter for the Warriors as a sophomore in 2012, while leading her team to a 30-11 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

"We were very fortunate to be able to secure 'Ali' for our 2013 team," said Peck. "She had committed to one of the top NAIA programs in the country. However, when we found out about her, we knew she is what we were looking for. She's highly experienced and is running an offense very similar to the offense we run, so it's a great fit."

Headrick became only the second player in Christian Brothers University history to earn All-American honors, which she was named Honorable Mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a freshman in 2012. The 5-foot-5 Memphis, Tenn. native was a libero/defensive specialist for the Lady Bucs last season and tallied 538 digs, 64 assists and 28 points in 31 matches, as her team fell only game shy of the NCAA DII South Region Finals.

Headrick hails from Memphis' St. Benedict High School where she led her team to the state final four in each of her four years. She was named All-Metro three times and All-Region twice while leading her team in digs in each season for a career total of 1,840.

"For a freshman to make the All-American team in Division II is a testament to what an outstanding ball control player Kristina is," noted Peck. "Kristina played club volleyball with our setter Shelby Anderton. I've seen her play on a number of occasions, while I was watching Shelby. Kristina will have a great career here."

de Freitas and Headrick join fall signees Jale Hervey and Maya Miller, as well as late signee Eseta Maka. The Raiders open the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30 against San Francisco in the Blue Raider Bash.
