MURFREESBORO - Middle Tennessee Head Coach Kermit Davis announced today the 2013-14 Conference USA portion of the Blue Raider men's basketball schedule. A total of eight C-USA teams will come to Murphy Center this season with four making their first-ever visit.
The Blue Raiders, fresh off a 28-6 campaign and an NCAA Tournament appearance, will see UTEP, UTSA, Old Dominion, and Tulane at the Glass House for the very first time. Southern Miss will make its first trip since 1958 and Rice will be coming to Murfreesboro for the first time since 2001. East Carolina last played at Murphy Center in 2002 and UAB made a visit last season.
"This is a great conference schedule for our fans because they will see so many teams for the first time," said Davis. "There's a lot of basketball tradition coming to Murphy Center which will bring great value to our season ticket package."
Middle Tennessee opens league play with three straight at home beginning January 11 against UAB before hosting UTEP on January 16 and UTSA on January 18.
"To have your first three league games at home is a very exciting way to get things started," added Davis.
The Blue Raiders hit the road for the first time on January 23 with a visit to Tulsa before heading to North Texas on January 25 to face the Mean Green. It will mark the first meeting between MT and Tulsa and the Blue Raiders own a 9-6 record against UNT.
East Carolina and Old Dominion will come to Murfreesboro on January 30 and February 1, respectively, before the Blue Raiders make a familiar road swing to Florida and take on Florida Atlantic and FIU on February 6 and February 8.
The Blue Raiders will then face a tough home stand against Tulane on February 13 and Southern Miss on February 15. Both had 20-win seasons a year ago with USM finishing 27-10 overall.
MT will face its third straight 20-win team from 2012-13 when it travels to Charlotte on February 20. It will be just the second meeting between the two schools and the first since 1987. The Blue Raiders will then head to Marshall on February 22 before concluding a three-game road swing at Louisiana Tech on February 27.
The final C-USA home game will be on March 2 against Rice before ending the regular season at UAB on March 6. The Blazers are the only league team MT plays home-and-away.
The C-USA schedule culminates with the 2014 Conference USA Tournament, which will be played in El Paso, Texas on March 11-15.
"The depth of Conference USA is terrific and will present many challenges but we are very anxious to begin a new chapter of Blue Raider basketball," said Davis.
